Tapas y Sangria

Last summer, I had the occasion to go in Spain, and more precisely in Andalucia.
This country is very beautiful and, moreover, holidays there can be very cheap !
Then it was the perfect occasion to enjoy a lot without breaking our piggy-bank !

Andalucia is one of the most beautiful region in Spain and the one I like the most : between heavenly beaches, beautiful cities and a slight montainous terrain, it's perfectly located and offers wonderful views.

My advice would be to spend 2 weeks there to have time to visit the most important and beautiful cities (Granada, Cordoba, Sevilla, Tarifa, Ronda) but also relax the beach (It's holidays right?). The best way to travel through the region is to rent or have a car, then you can arrange your timetable and even sleep in it for the bravest ones !
If you're a student, don't forget to bring your student card to enjoy some fairer prices...

Unfortunately, I only visited Malaga, Sevilla and Ronda as I was there only for 6 days...

  • Malaga
This is not a very beautiful city but it is worth spending a day to visit the Alcazaba, the Gibralfaro and then relax on the Malagueta beach. If you are a Museum person, the Picasso Museum is very interesting. Don't miss one of the many tapas bars of the city !

What we liked : The Alcazaba, wandering in the city center and then in the marina by night, the Cathedral.
The flip side : a very crowded city in summer and a lot of buildings going on which makes the city very noisy...

  • Ronda

Ronda is a tiny city between Sevilla and Malaga. When you first get in the city, you are more likely to arrive in the New Town which is not very pretty. But then, after a little walk, you reach the Old Town and its wonders. Ronda is very charming and peaceful. This little city, in the middle of nature, has a rich heritage.

What we liked : Everything. The impressive Puente Nuevo, The Arena, all the edfices in La Cidudad (the old part of the city). We also appreciate the fact that we were lucky to visit Ronda during the Feria, when Spanish people party all day long and the atmosphere is heady !
The flip side : The new town (the first thing we saw) is not appealing at all.

  • Sevilla
Sevilla is the capitale of Andalucia and is very well know for its imposing cathedral. Unfortunately, the Cathedral is not free (which I find really weird as it doesn't stick with the purpose of religion...) and the price is around 8€ ! Still, Sevilla is a very pretty city with many things to do like a cruise over the Guadalquivir, visiting the Cathedral and the Castle, enjoying a glass of sangria in one of the quiet street,... You can also rent a canoe.
If you are travelling with kids, I would advice you to do the Isla Magica Theme Park.
This is a great city as it has a impressive and beautiful legacy and you can never get bored as there are so many activities to do... The perfect city to enjoy summer.

What we liked : The atmosphere of the city, wandering in the streets and finding some peaceful areas (parks or bars) to rest before moving again.
The flip side : The fact that everything is charged and not cheap ! Two days to visit is too short.

Overall, the trip was really great and cost-effective. Plus, finding a place to stay for a couple of nights is very easy ! I can't wait to come back to Spain to visit Granada and Cordoba ....

Have you ever visited Spain and where have you been ? What Spanish activities/cities to visit would you recommend ?
